I am not the Teratai Complaint Bureau ´òÓ¡ µç×ÓÓʼþ
2008/05/05, Monday

I had been working day and night and 7 days a week (except last Sunday) since the 12th General Election. I got elected with the overwhelming support by Teratai people.

I am voted as a Selangor State Assemblywomen. My role is to formulate policies and laws for the Selangor state. Besides, I have to look after the development in Teratai area.

However, my popularity in Teratai constituency have turned me into.... (read more)

the "Teratai Complaint Bureau". My office still flooded with people everyday with various of complains ranging from local council matter, land matter, criminal cases and educational system. For local council problems these are belong to council member, land problems are belong to State Assemblyman and criminal and educational system related problems are belong to Member of Parliament. I am currently answering all complaints that suppose to answer by 3 different tier of government agencies.

Wherever I go such as walking on the street, having lunch or dinner or buying bread from a bakery shop, people always stop me and start making their complaints. Some people (for their own convenient) keep making call to my handphone as early as 8 a.m. or as late as 12 p.m. to 'lodge' their complaints to me. When we told them to make a proper complaint to the local council-MPAJ or go to my office to fill in a complaint form, they will quickly stay away or critise me for being arrogant.

After a whole day of works and meeting, I am exhausted and I would like to enjoy a nice meal in order to release my stress. However people just do not understand and take every opportunity to 'lodge' their complaints. When we told them to lodge all their complaints officially to MPAJ, some will accept and some will start swearing "I voted you to serve us but you are shirking your job." ??!! What is my job?????

Anyway, I just want to tell everyone that I am elected as a law maker- State Assemblywomen but not the Complaint Bureau Chief. If one day when you see Lim Kit Siang or Abdullah Badhawi receiving all these complaints on the street or restaurant, I think you have to break out in a cold sweat. Why? Because they are not doing their right job. Let say if all the managers in a company doing the cleaners job, who is managing the company? You will expect the company close down very soon. So do the government.

Dear ADUN,

I sympathised with you on the round the clock effort put in and as
a first timer ADUN I would suggest that you prioritise your work.
Firstly
discuss with your experienced colleagues as to how they distribute their
workload and get the PR govt to allow ADUN's to have representatives to cover
the different areas in your constituency. To do this all by yorself is hugely
impossible. Try to publicise widely the relevant Town Council's contact numbers
in order for the rakyat to know. They need to be educated as well.
Try not to
brush off the rakyat who approach you and this will be seen as arrogant. This is
the last thing an ADUN should do.
Accomodate them or direct them to your
representative for the area and educate them on how to make complaints to the
Town council.
Have a good day.

Hi Jenice,
I have a suggestion after reading all the emails.
How about
creating an Awareness Pragram with the rakyat on a better understanding of what
is a MP and ADUN?
I used to be the Committee of the Residents of Pandan
Perdana. The residents will complain everyday, expecting you to do wonders.
After some struggle with this voluntary post, I've decided to have an
"Educating the Rakyat" session. It was a successful in a way, it managed
to get into their heads about being civic-minded and become pro-active.

I
suggest you do not push them away, take note of every complaint. Get your staff
or more volunteers to be incharge of different categories of complaints. Ask the
Rakyat to not only give complaints but also to forward some positive
ideas/remedies/solutions. It will make a big difference.

Finally, have a rest
day. Nobody is a robot. Let them understand. Do not give up. Good job.
God
bless you.

While it is not incorrect to refer to local council, it is equally important to
understand the history of your customers, in this case the voter !
Most of them
are still unclear of how govt works and you must be real careful in response.
Educate them but never turn them away. Telling them off is not politically
correct, irregardless how right you may sound. You should seek advice of your
more experienced DUNs and MPs on this before reacting hastly.

for me, i still not call u directly yet. although i fill i hope to call you
directly now. This is because i still feel that you really need a lot of good
assistant and need more time for the time being. Why i say so,cause since the
first mail you reply to me until now i still follow your advice.then i found
that your down line not doing a good job.(down line=your staff and all council
staff.)

I should tell you that along with your advice i did meet and complaint
all
my problem to all the respective council.but the bad new is until today
they
are still not doing they job.

That is why,i feel that until today u still
facing a lot of complaint.

maybe you should tell me why ?
i hope DAP new
council (MPAJ) will
give us a good answer on why this old/new MPAJ staff still
not perform.

i still feel that alam flora, country ent, syabus,MPAJ and polis
still no doing they best to me!

hope u will get through all this time.
Jenice   |60.53.47.xxx |2008-05-12 23:30:46
Hi Wilson, I don't know what is your problem about, if you could please email to
me.
FYI, we have not put our new council members in place, the current council
members are still the BN members. We will do it soon in the month of May.
Also
for your information, after 8 March, most complaints from the people will
attended. However, if certain cases that in not belongs to MPAJ or personnal
cases or a project that require budget, all will put on hold.

Totally agree with comments posted as it is not only hapenning to you alone, but
to all ADUNs & MPs being BN or PR all over the country includung Sabah &
Sarawak.

I sympathise with you BUT this is what you have choosen - to be a
people's representative until the next general election and I am sure you are
prepared and have expected this since you worked as assistant to MP for Bkt
Bintang. Does he always go the Parliament and formlate laws and etc,
etc.?

Instead of disagreement on the above issue, especially as a first term
ADUN, you should be more empathy to build your grassroot support and a proper
base to
catapult to higher position in the future. I am sure you will not want
to stay put as ADUN for the next and next and next. Today your party, DAP has
form the state government with alliances of two other opposition parties and
there are always opportunities for you and your party to move up to form the
next Federal...

As everyone know the government offices are not approachable. Therefore it is
anticipated.

However, as a assemblywoman, you might want to look into
solution, a network solution. I see this is an issue in the whole country.

I
do suggest having an online portal coupling combine with few traditional
approach will help

PR, pkr-dap-pas should create an online forum throughout
the country, with subforums correspondant with respective states constituencies
moderated by appointed personnel.

The people could directly post the issues
on relevant subforums.

Of course there will be certain problems to make this
into a success.

- valid register users, a user has to be valid, therefore
authenticity is required, for eg, name, address, ic, contact. Moderator could
play a part in this for authorization of registered users too and prevent ghost
users.

- what about those not computer savvy? well in each contituency, for

Sad but true. This is not only hapenning to you alone, but to all ADUNs & MPs
being BN or PR.

I sympathise you BUT I am sure you have expected this all
since you worked as assistant or secretary to MP for Bkt Bintang Kui Lun years
ago.

Instead of disagreement on the above, especially as a first term ADUN,
you should be more empathy to build your grassroot support and a proper base to
catapult to higher position in the future. I am sure you will not want to stay
put as ADUN for the next 20 years. Today you have form the state government, and
there is always an opportuny for you to form the Federal government if you all
play your card well.

You can see how vulnerable is DAP in PR government now.
There are so limited choice of ministerial quality candidate in DAP. Chances is
given to you to gain experience to move up the leader.

While educating the
public on the role of an ADUN, I suggest that you should set up a supp...

The problem is , when the people who suppose to do the job is not doing
anythings or slow in solving the problem of course we have to approch adun or
mps.

Its will take time to change the mind set of people..so give the people
some time.

Must educate the people so that they know the fuction of ADUN and
MPs.

Cheers
Brian Fong   |60.48.157.xxx |2008-05-08 17:54:08
hi adun jenice - i empathize with your situation but that is to be expected isnt
it?

though your official role is to formulate policies and to ensure the
development of teratai the people expectation of their adun is quite
different.

common folks like us would like to have a "help-desk" which
is responsive and MPAJ is definitely not what we consider as friendly nor
responsive.

that's why people look up to aduns and possibly aduns could speak
and act for the common folks by establishing an efficient help desk and act like
a go between between the people and government agencies.

maybe you can set up
an online feedback form and a dedicated email for people to voice their grouses.
and hopefully you will reply as well on the status.

list down the council
representative email, the MP email and the State Assembly email and categorise
which problem should be directed to which agencies.. this i believe should help
alle...
mogan   |58.26.64.xxx |2008-05-09 15:06:00
ITs true...list down the council's number.. Let them do the job. There are
24 councils in Ampang + JKKK and many more.

Just a question....
how many of the teratai people know thier council member??????

Are the MPAJ staff's are approchable and answering our questions?

it would be inconsiderate to call you in the middle of the night or in the early
morning but i think most were desperate to do so as some prefer to go directly
to someone who can do or decide on something.

like mpaj, how many complaints
were solved? we can complain but who will promise us to do something? i think
tat when u have choosen to work as an mp, u should already knew that u will have
to face these kind of problem.

even if they complaint, who can guarantee
that there will be someone to follow up?
