Ampang: Customers and hawkers in Taman Muda wet market complaint that there is insufficient parking, many cars park at the road side. However, the directorate from Majilis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) locks car every day which had scared away many customers.
Jenice Lee Ying Ha, the Director of DAP Teratai Community Centre whose office is located right behind the market shared the same feeling. Today, residents, hawkers and Jenice held a peaceful picket in front of the car locking spot. They demand for “More parking before locking”.
Jenice Lee Ying Ha (right 2 at front) urging the MPAJ to solve the parking problem first before locking cars.
Jenice’s Comments
“There are many elderly people visit this market and also the clinic in Taman Muda, they all facing parking problems as they cannot park their car far away and walk a long distance to the market, the design of the whole area is not pedestrian friendly” said Jenice.
“Some of the cars that park inside the yellow line which do not block any traffic should not issued summon but for those double parking and effect the traffic, their cars should be moved away rather than just locking the car” added by Jenice.
When cars were locked, many people choose to pay bribe because the MPAJ officer told them, they have to pay the bill at MPAJ office at Pandan Indah before unlocking the car. In fact, this is not true, car owner will be charge for RM100 or RM50 (if they appeal) and the MPAJ officer can issued receipt right on the spot. Car owners must ask for receipt as we Malaysian have to eliminate the practice of bribe.
Asking for a summon price list
Jenice, the Director of DAP Teratai Community Centre had been trying to ask for a summon price list for car locking but the Directorate office refuse to give one. The officer only mentioned the charge verbally. When Jenice insisted, the officer told her that she had to write a letter to the MPAJ Law department to request.
All the bureaucracies process had give extra works and problems to the people. Jenice urged for a more transparent practice of the MPAJ by listing down all the summon charge, lessen application charge & etc. In turn, when MPAJ award any project to any company, the total budget and the name of the company should be released.
People are bosses
People are the bosses, they pay taxes such as personal tax, ‘cukai pintu’ & ‘cukai tanah’. All staffs from MPAJ are civil servants (practically council member and the chairperson of MPAJ are civil servant too because they are not elected by the people but appointed), therefore they should act according to people’s will and demand.
Jenice Lee, will strive for her best to ask for a proper road planning and car park in Taman Muda.
